چکیده

Adrenal rest tumor in liver is a very rare tumor. It originates from an adrenal rest, which is derived from the aberrant adrenocortical tissue. Adrenal rest tumor is an ectopic collection of adrenocortical cells in extra-adrenal sites. This tumor may be hormonally active and manifest endocrine syndromes. But, most tumors are non-functioning and benign. Histologically, hepatic adrenal rest tumors (HARTs) are composed of low columnar or cuboidal clear cells, similar to adrenocortical tumors. At imaging, HART is typically subcapsular tumor, demonstrating macroscopic fat and hypervascularity. Radiologically, adrenal rest tumor shows similar findings with those of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), adenoma or other hepatic tumors. Differentiation of HART from angiomyolipoma or HCC may be difficult at both radiologic and histologic analysis. Especially in case of HART without macroscopic fat component, preoperative radiologic diagnosis of adrenal rest tumor is confusing with HCC. So, differential diagnosis should be made with caution. Here is a case of adrenal rest tumor with radiological imaging findings of HCC.

Adrenal Rest Tumor of the Liver Preoperatively Diagnosed as Hepatocellular Carcinoma

BACKGROUND Hepatic adrenal rest tumors are rare and show similar findings to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is difficult to distinguish an adrenal rest tumor from HCC due to radiological similarity. We report a case of an adrenal rest tumor in the liver that mimicked HCC radiologically. CASE PRESENTATION A 67-year-old female was referred to our hospital due to the finding of a hepatic mas...

Adrenocortical Carcinoma Mimicking Pheochromocytoma: A case Report and Review of Literature

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon malignancy originating from cortex of adrenal gland. The most common pitfall in diagnosis of ACC is to distinguish it from pheochromocytoma. Here we report a 62-year-old hypertensive man with presentation of dyspnea. The laboratory data showed an increase in urine cortisol and renin with a mild increase in aldosterone, but decrease in adrenocorticot...

Hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor mimicking hepatocellular carcinoma.

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver is a rare tumor. It has variable clinical presentations and image findings. It can mimic benign or malignant hepatic tumors, and may be difficult to diagnose. We present a case in which a hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor was misdiagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma because the tumor presented a typical enhancing profile and morphology of hepatocellular carc...

Primary hepatocellular carcinoma in ectopic liver masquerading as left adrenal carcinoma: a rare occurrence

We report a unique case of primary hepatocellular carcinoma in an ectopic liver rest in the left renal hilum masquerading as a left adrenal tumor. Adrenal tumors have been reported within adrenal rests inside the liver but hepatocellular carcinoma in ectopic liver rests in the adrenal area is an extremely rare entity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report from the Indian s...

Giant Hepatic Angiomyolipoma Mimicking Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Angiomyolipomas (AMLs) are a benign mesenchymal tumor that typically occurs in the kidney and very rare in the liver. Even though these tumors can be diagnosed with imaging tecniques, diagnosis mainly relies on pathological findings. Because AMLs can mimic other hepatic tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) on radiologic images due to some of the features. We presented a giant hepatic A...
